My name is Roesy. I’m a singer-songwriter and visual artist from Offaly.I’ve painted since childhood and have worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator since 2012. Crests, logos, stickers, character illustration, motifs, and lettering have always drawn me in. The curves, balance and construction of a line are what float my boat.Burning artwork onto hurls has brought all those interests and skills into something physical: the heat of the pen, the smell of the wood and the many variables involved in the burn. It can't be rushed, you are forced to slow down and go with the grain, whether you want to or not.Although the original idea came from my love of the CΓΊ Chulainn story rather than any great knowledge of hurling, it has also become a lovely and unexpected way of putting down roots again on home turf after 15 years in Australia.Every piece is designed, burned and finished in a repurposed garage, using locally made hurls from Kinnitty. Having a proper workspace has also allowed me to return to larger-scale painting, with a new body of work planned for exhibition in 2027/28. Smaller original works are added here as they become available. Each commission begins with you, not a fixed template. The names, places, crests and symbols that matter to you turn the hurl into a physical family heirloom, made to be passed on and still mean something years from now. That is a large part of the joy in what I do.
